It was November 2016 when we received a request from Australia. Ben wanted to surprise his girlfriend Lita and propose to her with a surprising engagement in Italy! We only had 13 days to plan and set up everything! Anyway we accepted this challenge, because when it comes to true love, all things are possible! 🙂
The location was outstanding: Civita di Bagnoregio, founded by Etruscans more than 2,500 years ago. By the 16th century, Civita was beginning to decline, becoming eclipsed by its former suburb Bagnoregio. At the end of the 17th century, its inhabitants were forced to move. This was because of a major earthquake that accelerated the old town’s decline.
In the 19th century, Civita’s location was turning into an island. The pace of the erosion quickened as the layer of clay below the stone was reached in the area where today’s bridge is situated. The Bridge is the only way Civita can be reached. No one lives there anymore and this is the reason why Civita became known in Italian as il paese che muore (“the town that is dying”).
This romantic engagement in Italy was a surprise to be set up during ben and Lita’s wonderful italian winter holiday. After few days spent in Rome, they planned to stay 2 days ad Civita di Bagnoregio, at the Domus Civita.
Ben’s desire was to propose to Lita, creating a bohemian vibe with flowers & candles in the amazing cave room with the pool on the ground floor of the apartment. We needed to plan all so that Lita wouldn’t notice any suspicious move.
They left the villa in the morning at 11:00 am and went for a drive around sightseeing.
They returned back to the villa once we had set up everything in the pool area. Ben told Lita that their chef was late preparing lunch and they went to the area downstairs to have a look.
This is when Ben proposed and they enjoyed some time for a lovely moment just together.
Then the photographer came to start taking pictures. They went out for a walk and then came back to enjoy the nice late lunch a chef made for them toward the sunset.
The table set up with candles and white and pink flowers was just the perfect background for their first toast with champagne as bride and groom to be!
